Co-codamol is a painkiller which contains an opioid and paracetamol and is effective for the short term treatment of acute moderate pain caused by headaches, dental pain, neuralgia, period pain and rheumatic pains, and should be used when other painkillers such as Ibuprofen and Paracetamol have not worked. When taking this medication, it is important that you wait at least 4 hours after you last took other painkillers before taking this medicine.

The recommended dose is:
Adults and children 16 to 18 years: 1 to 2 tablets every 6 hours, as needed. Do not take more than 8 tablets in 24 hours
Children aged 12 to 15 years: 1 tablet every 6 hours when necessary. Do not give your child more than 4 tablets in 24 hours
Children under 12 years: should not be taken due to the risk of severe breathing problems
Elderly: Dosage is usually reduced in the elderly with liver damage.
• Avoid alcohol when taking this medicine.
• Swallow the tablets with water.
• This medicine must not exceed 3 days of continuous use. If the pain persists or does not improve within this period, you must consult your GP.
